Craftsman Training Scheme was introduced by Govt. of India in 1950 to ensure a steady flow of skilled workers in different trades for industry, to raise quantitatively and qualitatively the industrial production by systematic training, to reduce unemployment among the educated youth by providing them employable training, to cultivate and nurture a technical and industrial attitude in the minds of the younger generation. The Scheme, the most important in the field of Vocational Training, has been shaping craftsmen to meet the existing as well as future manpower needs, through the vast network of ITIs in the various states.
Skilled workers are an essential input for industrialization, modernization, promotion of trades and business. The main objective of the department is to promote technical/Vocational education in the state and to reduce unemployment among the educated youth by providing them technical training for employment /self employment.
In the field of Industrial Training, the state of Haryana has progressed from only 48 Industrial Training Institutes with a seating capacity of 7156 in 1966 to 119 Industrial Training Institutes with around 34296 seats in 2011. Obviously, the journey has been slow and modest. The number of seats in Polytechnics and Engineering colleges has increased manifold but the training for the actual floor workers in industry has not received the attention, it deserves.For Industrial Training, the discipline and its curriculum is decided by NCVT after considerable deliberation and research. Normally, it is in consonance with the industry scenario, needs and employability but its continuous revision is required at NCVT level.
